Blogging for the Persecuted Church
You know, I used to think that I was being persecuted for my faith if someone poked fun at my “goody-goody”ness, or if I was not invited to a certain party. I think it’s common for most of us to think of these things as persecution, because then we can say that Paul’s words apply to us: “Everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Tim 3:12). But lemme tell ya - there are plenty of people in the world who are taking stands that perhaps we would not take, and are paying for it. Allow me to introduce, for those of you unfamiliar with it, to Voice of the Martyrs.
My wife and I are big fans of Voice of the Martyrs. This organization makes known the plight of those being persecuted for their faith. They also give believers the opportunity to step up and try to help. For example, you can see a list of prisoners (in like 8 different countries - see also PrisonerAlert.com), along with a mailing address so you can send them a letter (here are some guidelines for writing to them).
For those who are interested, you can get a free newsletter from Voice of the Martyrs, and e-mail updates as an additional option.
Voice of the Martyrs has now invited bloggers to join their cause with their VOM Persecution Blogosphere Program. So if you’re interested in helping to give the voiceless a voice, sign up!
